It’s been a little crazy lately in “Jen world”. Full time job aside, my “spare” time has become non-existent.
I have 11 in-laws arriving from overseas which has involved organizing their rental home, transportation and activities (and for a group of 11 people this is no easy feat). This will be the first trip to Canada for many, and of course I want them to have a great vacation.
I’m a bride’s maid in my cousins wedding. Thank goodness she isn’t a “Bridezilla”, I haven’t been involved in the planning process (phew!) but we all know how busy weddings are.
Not to mention all the other small commitments; trying to stay on top of workouts, my car lease is up, and it seems every weekend there is another birthday to plan for. Don’t get me wrong, family and friends are my top priority and I enjoy every minute I spend with them, but it always seems that everything comes all at once. It’s enough to make your head spin!
It may seem overwhelming, but I love it. I am never more miserable then when I have nothing to do or organize for. I’m certainly not opposed to the odd relax and do nothing evening. But for the most part, I enjoy being busy, out and about, accomplishing something. There are those few moments where I think maybe I’ve taken on too, or how I will ever get everything sorted out, but these feelings are usually short-lived. I enjoy being busy.
Am I alone? Turn outs I’m not. According to author Patt Lind-Kyle, stress is an actual high. “They become hooked on the rush they get from stress, which stimulates hormones such as adrenaline, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and especially cortisol” she says.
It’s important to be careful that you don’t go from an active/busy lifestyle to over-the-stop stress and anxiety. Being over stressed can lead to health problems including high blood pressure, unhealthy food choices, lack of sleep; the list goes on and on.
It’s important to take time out for yourself and not take on too much. Turning down a social gathering or favour for a friend doesn’t make you a bad person. If you need help, don’t be ashamed to ask for it – everything doesn’t need to fall onto your plate.
It’s fine to be a busy bee if you enjoy it, just make sure you don’t go overboard or your health may pay the consequences.
