Public speaking has been a natural progression in my mission to help as many people as I can to increase their quality of life and help them live long and die short. My education combined with a passion to share and teach has launched me to becoming a exciting, motivational and informative speaker. I regularly speak at various libraries throughout Nova Scotia as well as large and small companies in the work place on topics which relate to both work and home.
My approach to public speaking is geared towards motivation rather than solely information. Often it is not the information which is lacking but the motivation to initiate change in ones life. Once changes have been initiated and people begin to feel better the ball gets rolling and that is when the information is sought out. Though quality information is delivered in each and every speaking engagement, the ultimate goal is to motivate attendees to create change to improve their own quality of life.

Acupuncture is the use of small disposable sterile needles which are inserted into the musculature of the body. At Cornerstone Naturopathic it is commonly used to treat muscle tension as well as pain management.
Your Naturopathic Doctor may recommend acupuncture for you. An acupuncture treatment involves disinfecting the area where the needles will be inserted followed by insertion and manipulation of the needles to achieve the desired result. The duration of the treatment depends on the areas treated, however treatments are normally under 30 minutes.
Plants and herbs have a very long history of being used to help heal the body and fight disease. Thanks to research into plants we know how to apply them to specific conditions to achieve powerful results.
Naturopathic Doctors are trained in the use of botanical medicine to treat a wide variety of conditions. This gentle and effective medicine has the ability to affect many systems of the human body, including digestive, musculoskeletal, endocrine as well as the central nervous system.
Everything we put in our mouth fuels us and provides us energy to accomplish our goals in both work and play. However, today our Standard North American Diet (SAD diet) is leading us into a constant state of systemic inflammation which can lead to degenerative diseases and decreased quality of life.
The majority of my patients often present with a digestive complaint. Thus it is a critical component of a thorough patient visit. Even though a patient may be complaining of one issue such as bloating I will ask them about their entire digestive tract. It works as one unit and each component of the digestive tract must be working properly in order for the entire digestive process to run smoothly without discomfort.
Chronic low levels of heavy metals and toxins is often seen in my patient base. Treating patients in rural Nova Scotia I have seen many patients with diagnosed arsenic toxicity due to their drinking water. Also there are many patients living in old homes who are constantly being exposed to lead paint and unsafe water pipes.
Though acute heavy metal toxicity is rare it must be considered when a patient has a history of chronic low grade exposure either through their past work environments when protective equipment was not ...read more
Multiple Sclerosis has a massive impact on both patients quality of life as well as their families and support people.
Often patients feel helpless and hopeless with their medical diagnosis because they know there is no cure. They take their medications daily and are told that is all that can be done.
However, a lot can be done to increase the quality of life and make sure that the patient is able to live life to their fullest.
Cancer is an ever growing area of medical practice. More and more patients are looking towards integrative cancer treatment utilizing the best of both conventional and evidence based complementary therapies.
When a patient presents to my office with a diagnosis of cancer they have most likely already been to an oncologist and have a diagnosis and may be waiting for chemotherapy and/or radiation.
Treating cancer involves a systemic approach, including all mental, physical and emotional aspects of health.
Allergies are a significant detractor from quality of life. Anaphylactic allergies such as those to peanuts and bee stings can be life threatening and require medical treatment.
In addition to anaphylactic allergies there are the more common non life threatening allergies which patients often complain about. These are the seasonal allergies or allergies to dogs, cats, horses and dust. It is these allergies that I am able to address....Read More

Professor Douglas Zochodne defines neurogenic pain as “a severe and debilitating pain that can render patients unable to walk, work, sleep or enjoy life”. In treating patients for pain, I completely agree with this definition.
When we feel pain, the pain signal travels to 3 distinct areas of the brain:
The reticular system is responsible for removing the body part from the painful stimulus. Somatosensory is the interpretation and perception of the stimulation.
The most interesting aspect of pain is the fact that a stimulus travels to the limbic part of the brain which controls our emotions. It is due to the limbic system that we feel...read more
Roughly one third of my practice is spent seeing patients who suffer from anxiety, depression or both. This effects their sleep quality, the ability to perform their job, take care of their children and enjoy life. Both of these conditions are treatable, and treatment protocols are very individualized based on their symptoms and severity. Below is a brief overview for each condition.
Weight loss is often a common prescription from health care providers. However even though a patient is told they should lose weight they are provided with little to no guidance or help to be successful. Research has shown that maintaining a proper weight decreases risk factors for a myriad of diseases and medical conditions.
Though weight loss is the term used I am only interested in fat loss combined with muscle gain and bone mass gain as well as increased water percentages. To obtain this information, a body impedance analyzer (BIA) machine is used which accurately determines body composition. The number on the scale is not very important in a...read more
What Conditions Can This Treat?
Neural-prolo therapy can treat any type of pain condition as it is working on the nerve in the area of pain as opposed to working on tissues in the area such as muscle, tendon or ligaments. Not only does Neural-prolo therapy eliminate pain but it also stimulates local healing in the area as well. Neural-prolo therapy can eliminate pain due to tendonitis, herniated discs, pinched nerves, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder etc.
Are There Contraindications or Side Effects?
Dextrose is derived from corn, thus there is a theoretical contraindication if one has a severe allergy to corn. However, dextrose is naturally present in the human body and no toxic effects have been reported to date. Side effects may include a stinging sensation when the needle pierces the skin as well as potential bruising at the injection site.
Prolozone therapyis a non-surgical intervention and often permanent treatment for chronic joint pain. Prolozone is a series of injections of collagen forming substances which aids damaged connective tissue and speeds healing. The injections occur in the joint as well as around the joint depending on where the damage is located. By healing the damaged connective tissue in and around the joint the pain is eliminated and the patient is able to once again use the joint normally.
Ozone inactivates bacteria, fungi, yeast, and viruses. It creates changes in the cell wall of the bacteria through oxidation of the phospholipids. In fungi ozone inhibits cell growth in specific stages and with viruses, the ozone damages the capsid which disrupts the reproductive cycle.
Ozone also increases oxygen delivery to tissues. It does this through stimulation of an enzyme called 2,3-diphosphoglycerate. Ozone also activates the energy producing parts of cells (mitochondria) which increases energy output in the from of ATP.
IV Therapy is an excellent way to delivery nutrients to the body while by-passing the liver and digestive system. When you are able to by-pass the liver and digestive system, you increase the nutrient levels in the blood stream for a period of time which help drive nutrients into the cells where they can be used to improve recovery, decrease fatigue and return to health.
Chelation is the use of specific compounds which grab onto certain minerals (lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium etc) in the body and allow the body to eliminate them through the urine.
Though acute heavy metal toxicity is rare it must be considered when a patient has a history of chronic low grade exposure either through their past work environments when protective equipment was not required or the recent discovery of high arsenic levels in their well water for example.
Chronic exposure or ingestion of these toxic compounds get stored in the body and eventually can mimic medical conditions such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, anemia as well as other neurodegenerative conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkionsons Disease.
