Neuralprolo-Therapy

Can neuralprolo-therapy help with my pain?

Pain is a natural response by the human Healthy Body to prevent us from causing more injury to an already injured area. However, pain can continue long term and when it does it begins to impact our quality of life. Suddenly the simplest tasks become extremely difficult. Reaching up and getting a plate seems impossible, holding a water jug no longer seems easy, getting in and out of the car is a gigantic feat, bending over to pick something up no longer seems possible. Pain can affect every aspect of our day to day activity.

How Does Pain Work?
Pain is communicated to the brain via our autonomic nervous system which is comprised of nerves. When an area of the Healthy Body is injured, nerves send a signal to the brain saying that it is in pain. The brain interprets this signal and makes us aware of the pain which prevents us from making any action which would make the pain worse and instead forces us to react in a way to eliminate the pain. Certain pain signals occur without us thinking about it. Such as if we touch a hot pan we immediately withdraw our hand.

How Do We Eliminate Pain?
Neuro-prolo therapy is an injection of 5% dextrose (a sugar) injected subcutaneously (just under the skin) over the area that is painful. Dextrose has an effect on the TRPV1 receptor of the nerve. By affecting this receptor it inhibits the nerve from releasing a signal to the brain thereby eliminating pain.

How Long Does This Last?
Patients normally leave the visit with a significant reduction in pain. Relief lasts from 24-72 hours after the first treatment. Upon each subsequent treatment the pain is reduced and the relief lasts progressively longer. Anywhere from 2-6 treatments may be needed for acute pain and possibly more for chronic pain. For example after the first injection the patient is pain free for 2 days, 3 days the second injection, then 5 then 10 days pain free until pain is eliminated.

What Conditions Can This Treat?
Neuro-prolo therapy can treat any type of pain condition as it is working on the nerve in the area of pain as opposed to working on tissues in the area such as muscle, tendon or ligaments. Not only does Neuro-prolo therapy eliminate pain but it also stimulates local healing in the area as well. Neuro-prolo therapy can eliminate pain due to tendonitis, herniated discs, pinched nerves, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder etc.

Are There Contraindications or Side Effects?
Dextrose is derived from corn, thus there is a theoretical contraindication if one has a severe allergy to corn. However, dextrose is naturally present in the human Healthy Body and no toxic effects have been reported to date. Side effects may include a stinging sensation when the needle pierces the skin as well as potential bruising at the injection site.
