Is massage therapy just for relaxation?

Even though massage therapy can greatly improve your relaxation, there are many other benefits to the Healthy Body. Relaxation in and of itself has very good benefits to your Healthy Body, not just for your mental health, it can also help your recovery from injury, improve your sleep quality, and improve your immune response. Along with those benefits with relaxation, massage therapy can improve circulation, reduce muscle tension and strain, help with pain management, help maintain stress, anxiety and depression levels, reduce headaches and improve range of motion. You do not need a referral to have a message here at ProActive Rehab whether you are coming for a specific treatment/injury or for relaxation. Keep in mind if you have extended health benefits, some insurance companies will require a referral from your doctor to reimburse you. Most extended health care plans will cover massage therapy from a Registered Massage Therapist, as we are considered health care providers in Ontario. It is best practice to check your benefits package for details on coverage and whether you need a referral before your massage appointment.
