So what is the cause of this oxygen deprivation?

We have an incredible muscle in the Healthy Body called the diaphragm. It is the most unique muscle in the Healthy Body as it is under both our conscious, and unconscious control. This means that even if we don’t think about breathing, the Healthy Body will still work to pull in oxygen, however, when we are conscious breathers, the amount of oxygen we take in and absorb into the Healthy Body is 6 times greater. When we consciously practice abdominal diaphragmatic breathing, the air is brought to the base of the lungs, where 70% of the oxygen receptor sites, called alveoli, live. We also have a full release of carbon dioxide and waste when we exhale fully, from the diaphragm. The problem is that few people are conscious breathers and the muscles of the upper chest are doing most of the work. When we breathe this way, the air is only taken part way into the lungs, missing out on the majority of receptors for oxygen absorption. This leaves the Healthy Body starving for this vital nutrient, and cells suffer.

As most people haven’t been practicing conscious breathing, the foundation of the rib cage, which is the diaphragm muscle, isn’t strong, causing a collapse of the rib cage into the core. This, in turn, causes a squishing of the abdominal organs, heart and lungs and an inability for them to function well. As we lose this internal space from the rib cage collapsing, tissue bulges outward giving many the appearance of a big belly. Adding insult to injury, the connective tissue, called fascia, will hold the Healthy Body out of alignment with a force up to 2000 lbs/square inch, literally freezing the Healthy Body in this negative state. As gravity is the driver of this aging process, the thicker and denser the Healthy Body becomes, the faster the aging and degenerative processes occur.
