We recently made the investment and purchased the Vitamix from Costco, best decision yet! The Vitamix is not just an ordinary blender, it really is "total nutritional center"! What I love the most about it is that you can add most fruits and veggies with the skin and seeds and the machine will pulverize them. Most nutrition lies in the skin so it is a great way to minimize waste while adding to the nutritional value. I started off by making simple smoothies: fruits, almond milk, flax seed, protein powder and even added spinach and kale! The sweetness of the fruits overpowers the taste of the greens so you can barely tell they are there which makes it great for children who don't eat a lot of veggies.
Leafy greens such as spinach, kale, collard greens, swiss chard full of calcium which helps keep your teeth and bones strong and reduces your risk of osteoporosis. calcium is also important in blood pressure management as well as muscle function.
Leafy greens are also a good source of folate which is especially important during pregnancy to help prevent neural tube defects as well as increasing energy levels. They also contain vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene and potassium which help build the immune system, strengthens hair and nails, improves joint flexibility and so much more!
Watch the video below which shows you how easy it is to make a healthy green smoothie in the Vitamix. Enjoy!
