Spring has sprung!

If you know me at all, you know that I really don’t like winter. I don’t like being cooped up; I don’t like the short days and long nights and I can’t stand having to wear five layers of clothes just to keep from freezing! Walking around feeling like the Michelin Man with big, bulbous arms and legs lined with a variety of cotton and wool makes me feel more like a parade float than a human being. Unfortunate as it is that weather affects our moods, most of us have a hard time staying in good spirits through the entire winter, and doing so requires a special kind of effort. I’ve tried my best to stay positive and active, but I’m definitely ready for things to come a bit more naturally.

The good news is winter always ends, and the colours outdoor change from brown and dead to green and alive!

Oh, lovely spring, the season of rebirth and renewal. It brings to mind images of Bambi-like baby deer frolicking through fields of colourful wildflowers and mother birds returning with lunch to a nest full of hungry chicks, accompanied by that specific piece of classical music that always goes with springtime. You know the one? (a quick Google search has educated me that apparently it’s called “Morning” by Edvard Grieg. Healthy Look at that, you really do learn something new every day!)

In spring, we get to chuck off our long underwear and exchange our snow shovels for sandals. It seems to me like spring would be a much better time for the world to attempt some new year’s resolutions instead of in the dead of winter. Suddenly everything seems possible, and it’s a great time to take advantage of this happiness by making some positive changes in your life.

There’s probably a variety of things that you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t found the motivation to start. Maybe you tried something for the new year, but in the past months have found it too hard to stick to. Whether you want to focus more on healthy eating or try to make your home more eco-friendly, it’s the perfect time of year to give it a go.

Regardless of what you want to do, we can all rejoice in the fact that winter has wrapped up its tragic gloom to prepare space for some new beginnings. The days are longer and warmer and things are looking up. Spring has sprung!

Until next time,

Peace, love and vitamin C!
