Frequently Asked Questions for Naturopathic Doctors

A few of your commonly asked questions about naturopathy; what should you you bring to your first consultation, how can naturopathy help with digestion, teenage acne, depression... Read more to find out!

1. What should I bring to my consultation with a Naturopath? What do you need to know about me?

Please fill out the intake forms and bring them into your visit. Also if you have any copies of previous blood work and if you are taking any supplements or medications, please bring those in as well. What I will want to know (aside from you health history and chief concerns) is your commitment to improving your health and your expectations of me as a naturopathic doctor.

2. Should I stop taking the supplements I’m already taking before coming to see you for the first time?

Do not stop anything that you are currently taking. I will evaluate and go over all of that at your first visit.

3. I’m having a lot of problems with digestion. How can naturopathy help me?

Digestion issues are very common. These can range from constipation to diarrhea and/or gas and bloating. There are many ways to improve digestions including a diet that works for you and proper intestinal supplemental support. Every case is different and a customized plan will be created for you at your visit.

4. Can you help my teenager with their acne?

Absolutely. Often addressing the gut and the organs of elimination will clear up the skin.

5. What effect can naturopathy have on my depression?

Depression is a multi-faceted problem. As a naturopathic doctor, I don’t just look at where the problem is (ie the head) but instead I look at the whole Healthy Body. Interestingly, there is more serotonin produced in the gut than the brain and so ignoring this system would be negligent of me. Depression can be treated through various means. It can involve a diet change, meditation, counseling, supplements etc. The root cause of why the depression is there in the first place is very important to uncover for long lasting results.
