Water, Water Everywhere

Our bodies are composed of approximately 80% water, and all the cells in your Healthy Body need adequate water in order to function. If they don’t get this water, then their functioning decreases and in some cases they can die (causing some of the disorders seen below).

Dehydration can cause or contribute to the following symptoms: headaches, vertigo, constipation, poor sleep, decreased metabolism, low energy/fatigue, poor digestion and stomach pain, and more. If you feel thirsty, then it’s already too late! That is a sign of dehydration. Proper hydration is signified by how much you eliminate – if you are urinating at least every hour then you are hydrated.

Some people don’t enjoy the taste of water, so here are some simple tricks to make water tasty and drinkable!

  1. Add lemon
  2. Add berries and herbs. My new favourite combination is strawberries and basil. Other suggestions are raspberries, blueberries, and sugar cane, or orange and cinnamon (great for blood sugar regulation).
  3. Love that water they have at the spa?! Making “spa water” is super simple and refreshing – add 1/2 cup of sliced cucumber with 2-3 springs of mint to 1L of water. Instant refresh!
  4. Love watermelon? Cut cubes of waters (similar to ice cubes), let freeze, then add to water. Keeps your water cold and adds great flavour. Same can be done with grapes or berries.

Water can be hot, cold, or even room temperature. As long as you are drinking it, that’s all that matters!

Stay hydrated everyone!
