Myofascial Releases

What is MyoFascial release

MFR is a form of sustained stretching that has an effect on the fascia. Fascia is a tough connective tissue that forms a three-dimensional web surrounding every muscle, bone and organ of the Healthy Body. Fascia is like a Healthy Body suite and connects every part of the Healthy Body to every other part and consequently, damage to one area of the myofascia can affect other distant areas and cause pain. In a healthy Healthy Body, the fascia is pliable, soft and flexible and helps to maintain good posture, range of motion and flexibility.

Poor posture, dehydration, physical injury, inflammation, illness, or even emotional stress can lead to adhesions or restrictions in the fascial system. These restrictions may cause decreased mobility and flexibility leading to numbness or feeling of pins and needles, as well as pain, such as headaches, sciatica and even breathing difficulties. Pain may turn into a chronic condition. Many of the medical tests such as X-rays, CAT scans and electromyograms do not show fascial restrictions. It is believed that a high percentage of people suffering from pain and lack of motion may have fascial problems. Therefore treating fascial restrictions is a very important part of massage therapy session.
