Do You Say Thank You?

It is amazing how just these two small words can make a person feel so good. Someone holds a door open for you or lets you in front of them in line when they notice your two items compared to their 30.

In the not so distant past, people looked each other in the eye on a regular basis. Not only that, they SAID thank you OUT LOUD! I remember growing up we were always taught to say yes please or no thank you. And when someone did a nice gesture for us or gave us something you always had to say thank you. In our ever increasing culture of technological communication, the voice of thank you seems to be growing silent.

It is amazing how just these two small words can make a person feel so good. Someone holds a door open for you or lets you in front of them in line when they notice your two items compared to their 30. Sadly we are surprised by these very behaviours that not so long ago were normal. With a sharp decrease in face to face interaction, we are forgetting how to use our voices.

Even in the work place, the common thank you is becoming endangered. If you are a manager, entrepreneur or just someone starting their new job, you need to get these words back in your vocabulary and use them often. This can change the whole dynamic of your office or workplace. Remember it takes just one person to start a trend! Be the maven!

I once over heard a business owner say, “Why should I say thank you? I pay them to work. I do not need to say thank you.” With this kind of attitude he had a lot of turnover of employees which directly affected his businesses ability to be productive. Whether you are a restaurant front line worker or the CEO of a large corporation, you like to feel appreciated! We are all working to have the life we want and a simple thank you for a job well done makes it more enjoyable.

Who wants to work in the place where everyone feels that they are not appreciated or not doing a good job? If you are the manager, make your employees feel important not ignored. Why? Because in the end employees feeling unhappy can be eliminated by a simple thank you. See their accomplishments and understand that ego is not about promoting yourself but about the ability to understand the importance of promoting others!

Make a conscious decision to say thank you to your wife, husband, child, co-worker, boss, employee and the random person that opened the door for you when your hands were full. See how things change in the world around you. Because the more you say thank you, the more things will happen that you can be thankful for.

I would like to thank you for reading this post!
