Thyroid can affect your energy in several instances ranging from hypothyroid (underactive) to thyroiditis (inflammation) to hyperthyroid (overactive which can drain your energy reserves also) and I also have seen clinical signs that thyroid support was in need with normal lab checks. Some signs that you may need thyroid support: Low vitality, stiffness in the morning on most days, swelling around the front of the neck, family history of thyroid disease, trouble gaining or losing weight, heart palpitations, general anxiety.

QUICK START TIP:  When you have a thyroid issue, over eating these goitergen foods raw, or cooked when you use the water from it, can decrease the effect of the thyroid hormones even more.

List of goitergen foods:

  • Cruciferous vegetables including:
  • Broccoli
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Kale
  • Kohlrabi
  • Mustard
  • Rutabaga
  • Turnips
  • Millet
  • Peaches
  • Peanut Butter
  • Radishes
  •  Soybean and soy products, including tofu
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries

So the key is don’t eat these raw more than once per week and if you cook them, it would work as long as you drain the water ie. Steaming them where the water drains out would be best.  Millet typically never works as you would mostly cook it, in its own water.

Consider using clean, pure forms of sea vegetable such as dulse in your diet to ramp up your iodine status. Exercise in a thyroid concern is typically a good idea and will give you a boost, but run this idea by your Doctor as all cases are different. Ways to check your Thyroid: -Physical exam checking for swelling and lumps at the front of the neck -Have the following bloodwork and do repeat checks at the same time of day for accuracy: TSH, Free T3, Free T4, TPO
