How do you measure a foot?

How does an orthopedic footwear is measured?

When we are making custom made orthopedic footwear for a client we first take several pictures of both feet then we take a Pedigraph, the client stands on a special paper with a layer of carbon paper between the plastic top part and the paper bottom part leaving a footprint, we trace around the foot to finish the foot print.  Then we take circumference measurements with a soft measuring tape, starting at the ball of the foot then just behind the ball, then around the arch just in front of the ankle, then around the heel/instep then around the ankle at the widest point and then, if necessary, every 5 cm higher up the leg to height of the boot being made.
