Why is my heel painful when I get up in the morning?

Plantar Fasciitis could be causing your morning heel pain.

This is a common symptom of Plantar Fasciitis/Fasciosis. The plantar fascia is a strong band of connective tissue originating on the bottom of your heel and fans out to attach into the toes. When it is over worked or stressed beyond its limits microscopic tearing and inflammation will occur. While sleeping or at rest the plantar fascia shortens (in length). It is painful when you take the first few steps because once you place your body weight on your foot the fascia lengthens and the scar tissue breaks apart. It is important to stretch out your feet before you take that first step. Pedorthic treatment is focused on reducing the excessive stress on the plantar fascia with supportive footwear and prescription (custom-made) or over-the-counter foot orthotics.
