Dr. Jaimie Ackerman attended the University of Alberta where she studied Biological Sciences and French Language Arts. She achieved a Bachelor’s in Human Biological Sciences and continued her schooling to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the University of Western States with her Doctorate in Chiropractics. She is also a Certified Provider of Active Release Techniques and Graston technique, both of which grew popular in the athletic community but have great benefit to the general population as well. Dr. Ackerman has experience treating athletes of all levels including US Open Tennis, CFL, and National level track. Though her focus lies in sports medicine, she also has a passion for the geriatric and paediatric community. Dr. Ackerman’s belief that continuing education is of the utmost importance when working in the healthcare field prompts her to attend seminars and workshops to further her knowledge base as often as she can.
Dr. Ackerman’s approach to patient care includes a strong emphasis on patient education, giving her patients the knowledge and tools necessary to take an active role in their recovery and future injury prevention. Patients are treated as a whole person, not just an injured part. A thorough assessment of each area of complaint is performed and a treatment plan tailored to the specific needs and goals of each patient is given. Treatment plans can include nutritional counselling, specific exercise/rehabilitation plans, as well as postural and biomechanical analysis and re-training. Co-management of patients’ new and existing conditions with existing practitioners including physiotherapists, MDs, and NDs is emphasized and facilitated by Dr. Ackerman allowing an integrated approach to treatment.
Outside of the clinic Dr. Ackerman gives back to the community through her involvement with non-profit organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Run for the Cure, and Friends for Life Society. She is also an Equestrian Show Jumper, training out of Thunderbird Stables in Langley and attending competitions throughout Western Canada and the United States.
