Guided Imagery Exercise
Imagine yourself in the most beautiful English garden. It just rained 30 minutes ago so the flowers still have small droplets of water on them. You can smell the wonderful fragrance of the flowers and the freshness of the rain. There are so many vibrant colours of flowers and everything looks sparkling and new. You have never seen a garden so amazing and full of potential.
As you start to focus on one bunch of flowers, you notice that there are some smaller ones and some that are larger and over powering the smaller ones. As you look closer you see that some of the larger ones are wilting a bit and one of the leaves look like a rabbit took a chunk out of it.
As you notice this you start to self-reflect on the flower and what it might have been through in its life time such as the weather, the habitat that it lives in, how it bounces back after a drenching rain. These are all factors of its existing state right now.
As you reflect more you can relate to this flower. You notice that you are similar. You too have been through a lot of things like stormy weather or things that you could not control. It is like you were that flower trying to stand strong through a storm and you too made it through. Even when you thought that the winds were getting too strong, you stood tall and knew you’d bounce back. You might be a little wilted and have a bit out of you but you are here standing taller than you thought possible.
We know that the faster that we shed the leaf that has the bite out of it, the sooner we can grow new leaves and feel even stronger. We can survive storms and anything that bites us. Take a deep breath in and feel your strength with in you. The strength that is with you every day though sometimes it might be hard to feel or see.
