The Program All patients are seen by bariatric educators and the internal medicine physicians. The program involves medical care and education. During the first 8 weeks of the program we ask patients to come to the clinic twice per week, for medical assessments and education. After the first 8 weeks, visits we encourage weekly visits to the clinic.
Education involves, individuals sessions with the bariatric educators and MDs, and small group sessions conducted by the MDs, dietitians, behavioural therapists and exercise specialist.
THERE ARE NO COSTS FOR THE PROGRAM. All services are OHIP funded. There is no cost associated with the Weight Management Centre’s program. Dr. Wharton strongly believes that increased weight is a medical condition and should be treated under a government funded model, similar other medical conditions that are funded through taxes that you, as a Canadians have already paid to the government. Paying for medical care is against the philosophy of the WMC.
Multi-disciplinary Team The Weight Management Centre has incorporated a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, dietitians, behavioural therapist, exercise specialist, technicians and administrators who understand the complexity of obesity. The WMC’s comprehensive approach will ensure the delivery of effective and long lasting medical care for overweight and obese patients, improving all aspects of their physical and mental health.
