The human being is an intricately woven tapestry of more than just flesh and bone; each of us is made up of a unique array of physical, emotional and psychosocial dynamics. Because of this, I don’t treat the diagnosis as a distinctive entity, it is a symptom. Rather, I see the individual as a whole and search for an underlying cause. If any system is dysfunctional, when you add load, it will fail. In today’s society, physical INactivity has become the norm and we have created dysfunctional movement patterns for it. We must first learn how to move well, then we must move often. My first goal of treatment is to teach the patient what ails them and give them the tools to undo their pain
Born and raised in Vancouver, I wanted to be an athlete from day one. I aspired for a career in performing arts, working with a local semi-professional circus troupe called Avatar and strived to break down barriers, playing high level men's and women's Ice Hockey. A number of injuries, however, lead me to alternatively seek a career in health care and sport sciences. I also got involved in coaching, mainly hockey, where I have been on the ice with students from peewee to pro. My long history of athletics and coaching allows a wide lens with which I approach patient management. My education has taken me from coaching to treating on the sidelines, working athletes of all levels. I have provided medical services for events such as the US National Handball tournament, the Canby Rodeo, Portland Stags Major Ultimate and many more. I continue to play hockey and lead a very active lifestyle. I have dedicated myself to continued learning with a commitment to my community and to myself to provide the most innovative, evidence based patient centred care.
