In 2005, UOHS successfully applied to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to be one of the 170 newly created Family Health Teams across the province. The province's mandate is to improve accessibility to healthcare for more than 2.7 million Ontarians. In addition to the family physicians and other specialists working at UOHS, the FHT added a whole new team of healthcare professionals including nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacist, mental health counsellors, chiropodist, dietician, psychologist, and psychiatrist.
