Our Services

Shelley uses a compassionate and strengths-based approach when working with all individuals. In addition to other interventions and techniques, she has found that CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is an extremely useful approach to working with a wide variety of concerns. She will work together with you to decide on the best approach for your personal needs in therapy.

Areas of Specialty

Part of Shelley's practice is devoted to the unique concerns facing persons with, or families of persons with chronic illness or disability as well as those with dementia and other age related challenges. Depression, grief and loss issues, trauma and caregiver stress are some of the concerns which may present in this stage of one’s life.

Shelley is also very intrigued by issues pertaining to low self-esteem and how one’s core beliefs can be a result of other concerns or development issues. Low self-esteem can sometimes be a result of current difficult and stressful life circumstances as well as negative life experiences from one’s past. Sessions with Shelley can help to identify causes and indicators of low self-esteem and in turn personal growth can develop which leads to a better self awareness, healing and balance of core beliefs.

Individual Counselling

Individual Counselling is a process through which we work one-on one with our clients  in a safe, caring, and confidential environment to explore their feelings, beliefs, values and behaviors. We may work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, dealing with depression or anxiety, to adjusting to difficult life transitions such as separation and divorce.

Many therapeutic approaches are found to be helpful in supporting and guiding individuals and families through life's challenges. In addition to other interventions and techniques, I have found that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an extremely useful approach when working with a wide variety of concerns, including anxiety and depression.

We may work together with you for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on your unique needs and personal goals for therapy.

Grief & Loss Counselling

Grief is the normal reaction a person feels when someone or something of importance is lost. It is an emotional response which may vary in intensity depending on how significant the loss was.

A person can grieve many things: the loss of a job, the loss of a pet, the death of a loved one, the ending of a marriage/relationship, the decline of one's health or abilities. How you grieve is very much related to your personality and coping skills, your faith and beliefs as well as the nature and significance of the loss. There is no “normal” grieving nor timetable in which you will begin to feel better.

There are many symptoms of grief. Shock and disbelief, anger, sadness, anxiety, panic, fear, guilt as well as physical symptoms are common, however almost any emotion you feel right after a loss is normal and predictable.

Though grief is natural, many of us can get lost in the grieving process. In grief and loss therapy Shelley will work with clients and their unique situations to navigate through grief in a healthy way and to overcome challenges that may leave people emotionally stuck.
