How do I strengthen my legs for better performance?

The best exercises to do to improve running speed, strength and endurance besides actually running would be barbell squats, deadlifts, lunges and walking lunges.

These exercises will strengthen the legs, add muscle mass to them which in turn will aid in sprinting speeds. Combine barbell squats with 1-minute sprints on an exercise bike for an intense leg and cardio building session.
