What is involved with getting fitted for foot orthotics?

First you should see your Doctor in case there is an underlying medical issue that may be causing your pain, the Dr. may suggest, or you can ask for a prescription for, foot orthotics. You may want to check with your insurance company to see if they cover foot orthotics, how much they cover and what type of provider is covered.

Next book an appointment with a qualified foot orthotic provider, not everyone that provides foot orthotics has a certification or is qualified to provide them. When you go in for your assessment you should get an assessment and the person doing the assessment should look at your feet, see how you stand, talk to you about your daily activities etc. Possibly have you walk while they look at your gait (how you walk), and do some sort of physical exam of your feet (hold your feet and move them around, look at them and ask you to move them in specific ways).

Once you decide that you want orthotics your feet should be casted, there is more than one way to cast but it should be a 3D cast whether it is with plaster, resin, wax or a foam box. A 2D image does not consistently provide an adequate cast to work with and a 3D scan of the foot is also inconsistent whereas a 3D scan of a cast is always consistent.

Once the manufacturing is complete you should be fitted with your orthotics by a qualified technician, they should have you try the orthotics in your shoes and make any adjustments if necessary.

Can orthotics help with my Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Spurs, if so how?

Definitely! Orthotics are primarily an alignment tool and heel pain is usually caused by misalignment of some kind so the orthotics are very effective in eliminating the heel pain caused by Plantar Fasciitis and/or Heel Spurs.
