What is Photo Rejuvenation?

Improve the appearance of sun damaged skin

Photo rejuvenation uses energy from the IPL 560 laser. Laser energy penetrates without damaging the superficial layers of the skin. Cells containing excessive concentration of pigment absorb this energy. Think of how black light absorbs heat very well and white light reflects it. This absorbed energy stimulates your body to disintegrate and eliminate the unwanted excessive pigment while having little or no effect on other tissues or on your normal skin color.

Treatments usually range from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size and number of the pigmented lesions.

After Treatment

For the first half-hour to one hour after laser treatment, the treated area looks pale or white, may swell slightly and may feel hot. Some clients might be red and slightly swollen for the rest of the day. In areas that are very dark, there may be pinpoint bleeding for a few hours and a bit of superficial bruising under the pigmented blemishes. Over the next few days, slight superficial blisters or crusting may develop in the areas, which resolves in about 7 days depending on the type, size and shade of the treated area, the skin usually returns to normal in about 7 to 10 days. Clients with sun damage, depending on the severity, may remain somewhat pink and experience mild flaking and peeling for one to four weeks. Brown blemishes usually appear darker for a few days before fading in colour.

After successive treatments, the skin will feel smoother and appear to have a more even skin tone. Photo rejuvenation improves the appearance of sun damaged skin and early signs of aging with minimal discomfort and no downtime. Photo rejuvenation treats Rosacea by controlling the flushing, eliminating broken capillaries and in many cases, reducing the need for topical cortisone creams and antibiotic etc.

Photo rejuvenation treatments can be combined with other treatments like Acne treatment for better results.

Get the brown spots and red's out too.

Pre Treatment

  • Avoid use of Accutane for 6 months prior to treatment.
  • Avoid tanning beds, spray tans, and sun for a minimum of two weeks.
  • Stop use of exfoliants (including Glycolic Acid) on treatment area one week before treatment.
  • Stop use of Retin-A one week prior to the treatment.
  • Shave area closely before every treatment.
  • Avoid makeup on area to be treated.
  • You may not proceed with this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Patients who have a history of recurring cold soars (Herpes simplex type 1) should start oral Valtrex 500 mg
  • Tablets 2 days prior to your PDT treatment and continue for 3 days after treatment.
  • Dermal fillers or other injectable`s should not be done 1 week prior to the treatment.
  • Avoid chemical or mechanical irritants 1 week prior to treatment.

Post Treatment

  • Apply cool pack (not frozen) to treated site immediately after treatment. Cool packs are applied for 10 min with a 10 min interval for approximately 2 hours or needed.
  • Moisturize with Aloe Vera gel or any light fragrance-free moisturizer, after the first 48 hours.
  • Use high factor sunscreen, SPF 45 or higher. A good sun block will contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide and will protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • The first 5 days following treatment, care should be taken to prevent trauma to the treated site. Avoid hot baths, massage, and exercising.
  • Avoid using skin irritants, Retin-A, Benzyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, and astringents on the treated areas. Chemical peels are not recommended throughout treatment series.
  • Don't tan after treatment. Tanning after treatment may cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream to the treated area every 12 hours for the first 48 hours.
  • If scabs appear after blistering, they should be kept soft with a lubricating cream. Blistered or ulcerated skin may be treated with an antibiotic ointment or burn treatment cream.
  • If crusting occurs, avoid picking at it. Picking can cause scarring. Once the scab falls off, the skin may be lighter, or darker. This usually resolves over a few months. There will be an obvious color difference from the unburned skin.

Fillers or other injectables should not be done within 2 weeks before/after treatment, or at the discretion of physician.
