The term “Natural” is fashionable and often used loosely when describing skin care. More often than not, “natural products” will fail to deliver on their claims making it challenging for consumers to find safe, toxin-free, and effective products.

Just as one would with conventional skincare, consumers should come to expect scientific back-up with their “natural” alternatives. Nature when supported by science goes hand in hand and it is encouraging to know that the better brands are able to support their claims with data. With growing consumer demand it is in fact becoming easier to source medically based skin care that is safe and effective.

Reading labels is the first step to limiting your environmental exposure to toxins and moving you towards more natural ingredients. For most people, selective skin care is often one of life’s luxuries and for many it is acquired ritual. The easiest first line of defense for safe products is to read labels. Whenever possible, and when budget or product availability allows, select skin care that is free of suspect ingredients including:

  • Mineral Oil
  • Parabens
  • Paraffin
  • Pthalates
  • Sulphates
  • Perfume
  • Dyes
  • Formaldehyde
